It happened

England lost to Australia. It was a clinical performance from Australia and England were a bit sloppy in the field. One thing that came to mind was Jos butlers missed stumping of Adil Rashid. This was not a big mistake as Usman only went on to get 23. It was just that getting him out quickly would have created more pressure on Smith. England started terribly with Vince showing that he is not good enough at this level. Bairstow and Morgan looked in and for out before Butler, who had batted well in combination with Stokes, holed out for 25. The rest of the lower order batting was not what we expected. England has been praised for there lower order depth but when we needed it they choked. The only positives for England going into there final deciding games are Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes. Ben Stokes was outstanding yesterday and like against Sri Lanka and Pakistan contributed with bat and ball. He is in this will massively help in there next two games against India and New Zealand. What next for England?

It is still in their own hands Roy comes in for Vince and Tom Curran comes in for Rashid who for me has underperformed. It’s simple if they win there next to games they are through. It won’t be easy but it’s certainly possible.

My opinion on David Warner and Steve Smith

As everyone knows these two players were banned for a year for there actions at Newlands. Since then they have come back and played a big role in Australia’s one day team. They have been booed for what they have done by nearly every team. But, Virat Kohli told his Indian fans to stop booing them. I feel that this was an un-needed act of sportsmanship. When you pay your hard earned money to get into the game I think you should practically be able to shout anything and everything. If it’s not too offensive or it’s not homophobic, racist or an offence like that you can say it really. I take Eoin Morgan’s view on it. He said ” they have committed something and serves there penalty. It doesn’t necessarily mean they are welcome back with open arms into the cricket community” ” I don’t think I could do anything ” let’s address the first quote. To be brutally honest I agree with it. Everyone is welcoming Australia back with open arms saying they have changed bug when it comes to a big game I am not sure if they will. Furthermore, if someone has served their penalty it doesn’t automatically mean afterwards the booing and stuff stops. The last quote is completely true whatever Eoin says before will not stop the fans. The only way you could stop this would to do it when they are batting. In conclusion, Steve and David deserve it.

Actions have consequences

Australia vs England

world cup preview

Tommorow , Tuesday 25th June, England take on Australia at lords. This is a vital game for England especially as they are 2 points behind Australia. England lost there last game against Sri Lanka so they will need to win this one.

I feel that one of the key phases will be Australia’s power-play. This is because the base of there innings in this world cup has been of the back of Finch and Warner putting together big opening stands.

If Australia bat first and put on a large opening stand then unfortunatley i dont feel England will be able to chase it down.

I feel Australia will take this one.

county championship performance of the week.

The weather was the real winner meaning a lot of really good games of cricket were stopped. In Middlesex’s game against Leicestershire, only 11 overs were possible. But there was only one result and that was somerset vs Kent. It was a spectacular game. Somerset won it in in a game consisting of 120 overs. The reason why this game was so short was the pitch and the new ball bowling. All 20 wickets fell to seam and there was a top score of 63 from Tom Banton. His innings was absolutely crucial in Somerset’s victory and was the difference between the two sides. After coming into the team ahead of Marcus Trescothick he showed heaps of maturity in conditions that any batsman would struggle with. Another brilliant performance was that of Lewis Gregory match figures of 11-53 and this season he has taken 35 wickets at 11. This form cannot be swept under the carpet by England, he has to play in the ashes. With 21 more wickets then Broad they are going to have to leave Broad out for Gregory. A bowling attack of Anderson, Gregory, Archer and Wood with Stokes and Curran backing you up will be deadly. One thing I would like to comment is Kent’s batting they completely collapsed from 24-2 overnight to 59 all out in just 46 minutes. This win leaves Somerset in a very good place 26 points ahead of Hampshire. They take on a 4th placed Essex side in 9 days.

County Championship Preview

Tomorrow Somerset take on Kent while Yorkshire take on Surrey. Day 1 of Hampshire Notts concluded with Hampshire 162 all out and Notts 93-2. This game is important at both ends of the table. If Notts manage to win then it will be a big boost to them staying up. However if Hampshire win it will keep up there title push. From the close of play Hampshire are clear favourites. Notts, or the weather, will have to do something remarkable if they are not going to lose. Somerset take on Kent sitting in 5th. Somerset have already beaten Kent twice this year. Marcus Trescothick has been left out of somerset’s squad with Banton most probably moving up to open. Somerset will be boosted by the return of key players Ahzar and Gregory. The other game that will be commencing Monday the 10th of June is Yorkshire vs Surrey. Yorkshire come into this game with high hopes and momentum. Surrey are 3 places below Yorkshire and have had a bad start to the season. Finishing last in the One day cup and not yet registering a Championship win. Although a win tomorrow could kick-start there season.

The World Cup so far

There have been 13 games of the cricket world cup so far. New Zealand,England,Australia and new Zealand making up the top 4 qualifying places. I feel England and Australia will stay there and be joined by India and West Indies. West Indies pace bowling has been very exciting. Using Russel in the power-play has worked well with people not being able to get him away. One thing that is letting West Indies down is there batting. With Holder at 6 if they lose early wickets then they may fail to get runs. This is what happened in there games with Australia. Talking of Australia they have started well and if they beat India, who they are playing as I am writing this, they could make a big statement to the world. Bangladesh have started reasonably with a good win vs South Africa and a tight loss vs New Zealand but then a drubbing to England. There performances have largely been relying on the batting of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqar Rahim. England have done well apart from an all round bad performance against Pakistan. There has been a high standard of catching with some absolute screamers especially Sheldon Cotterrels and Ben Stokes. Something that has been really good to sea is the competition between bat and ball. Hopefully there are more games like Bangladesh vs New Zealand. Overall there has been a good start to the world cup.

County Championship team of the week.

This is a new series that I am starting a series where i pick the best team performance of the week from County championship division. But without further ado lets get into it.

This week I am picking Somerset. A big 100 run win away at Guilford without Gregory,Davey and Ahzar who fell ill the night before. Somerste won the toss and chose to bat first. They fell to 35-3 with there top 3 failing. There middle order foughtback with a hundred from George Bartlett. They finished on a competative 344 all out. Bartlett’s 100 and Banton’s 44 (who was called up the night before after Ahzar fell ill.) The surrey innings started badly as they lost there top 3 (as somerset did) for 38 runs. They never recovered from this as they were 231 all out. A sizeable lead of 113. Somerset didn’t take advantage of this lead being all out for 153 with the only contribution being Hildreth with 60. Surrey needed 267 to win. Somerset didn’t bowl well on the third evening with surrey reaching the close on 99-2 another 166 needed.Buton the fourth morning Surrey capitulated losing 5 wickets for 14 runs under great spells from Groenwald and Brooks. They were bowled out for 164 and Somerset won by 101 runs. The 5 wickets from Overton and Brooks in separate innings in additio with Bartlett. Somersets best victory so far. But what is more important that it is a great advert for county cricket.
