Somerset vs Kent

Somerset took on kent a day after beating Hampshire at the Ageas bowl. Somerset was unchanged and for kent Billings came in for Cox. Somerset won the toss and chose to bat.

Somerset made a really good start with Banton hitting some authoritive boundaries taking Somerset to 25-1 of 17 balls before Babar was run out. It was a stupid run from a great player, there was never to there. Banton continued to accelerate with all of his shots but Hildreth was seven of 10 and then was out trying a switch-hit of Nabi. Somerset 67-2 off of 7.3 overs. The innings could go either way. Abell joined Banton. The two players put on a 102 in 53 balls. They both showed all their shots in a great partnership. Abell played all around the ground with proper cricket shots mixed in with scoops shots. Banton batted brilliantly and brought up his maiden 100 at the start of the 16th over . He fell the next ball caught in the deep for 100. Somerset 169-3. Byrom and Lambonby fell trying to wack it before Abell who managed to get a few boundaries away fell before the 19th over. Abell batted superbly for 63 off 33. Going into the last over Somerset were 195-6. They managed 10 of the last with a big Craig Overton 6. 205-6 good innings.

Kent started slowly but Crawley and Bell Drummond started to accelerate with both batsmen striking sixes. But Crawley was caught off Taylor at cover for 35 off 29. Bell Drummond was batting well and in combination with Kuhn. At halfway kent were 85-1 after 10 overs. Kuhn started to accelerate with a big swept 6 off Lambonby. He then fell next ball though a big wicket. Kent 89-2 off 10.3 overs. Billings joined Bell Drummond before he fell. A very good catch from Byrom on the boundary. Out for 36 off 26. Overton was bowling well then 3 balls later he had Billings caught skying won for 7 then big-hitter Nabi gloved won to short fine leg. This left Kent in tatters. 112-6 at the start of the 13th over. They never recovered all out for 151.

Kent will be disappointed as they haven’t lost to Somerset in t20 cricket for 7 years. Somerset, on the other hand, will be ecstatic with the win that takes them into 3rd place.
