Hampshire beat Somerset in t20 fixture.

Hampshire were away at Somerset and was un-changed. However, for Somerset Gregory came in for Jamie Overton. Hampshire won the toss and put Somerset into bat. Banton and Babar came out to bat.

Somerset made a horrible start when in the second over Banton was caught for 1 of the bowling of wood trying to hit him back over his head. Somerset were 10-1 after 3 a very bad start. Trego joined Babar but they batted relatively slowly and Somerset were 30-1 after the 6 over power play. They continued batting a bit slow and at the halfway point somerset were 65-1. Looking to accelerate Trego took a big swing and was bowled by wood for an ok 35 off 29. Babar was batting more and more fluently though as he neared his 50. As he was joined by Hildreth Somerset started to accelerate. Babar reached a 40 ball fifty and then in the 15th over he launched Chris Morris for two big sixes. Hildreth was Also now starting to go big with an awesome switch hit 6. He fell for a flamboyant 17 ball 28 before Morris yorked him. Hampshire’s death bowling was quite good apart from a few loose deliveries. Babar finished with a breathtaking 95 of 61 showing why he is the best T20 ranked batsman in the world. Somerset finishing on a competitive 172.

Hampshire made a terrible start with losing 3 wickets in the power play. Rossouw, falling to a good tumbling catch of Taylor’s bowling. Then Vince caught at a short cover off an inspired Overton. Then Northeast caught at short mid-wicket off. At the end of the power play Hampshire were 40-3 off the power play and the run rate had risen to over ten. Donald counter-attacked with boundaries but fell in the 13th over. Very good innings. Donald just falling short of a 50. The scoring rate was high but Morris joined Dawson who was batting well. Morris hit two big sixes off Craig Overton before the same man bowled him next ball. The 17th over lost Somerset the game with Taylor’s over going for 24. Hampshire favourites needing 18 of the last two. The first ball of the next over Gregory had fuller caught behind. It was a brilliant over but the last to balls were hit for Steaky fours of McManus. They needed 8 of the last over. Taylor bowled it and with 4 balls left Mcmanus hit a towering six to win it for them with 3 balls to spare.

Somerset will be disappointed but shouldn’t be downhearted. It’s a long tournament where you play every team twice. If this was the Royal London comp and we were two losses from three I would be worried however I’m not in this case. I’m confident Somerset will still do well and the winners of the game Hampshire may go all the way.
