Surrey beat Notts away at Trent bridge by 167 runs. Surrey move up the table to 6th with 105 points and Notts stay rooted to the bottom with only 48 points from ten games. That’s under 5 points a game. How our Notts going to recover from this. Virdi out bowled Ashwin with match figures of 14-139. Notts made a turning pitch in the hope of Ashwin bowling out Surrey for a really low score.
Surrey batted first and get to 240 all out. This was thanks to Elgar’s 59 Smith’s 42 Borthwick’s 29 and Clarke’s 34. On a hard pitch to bat on this was a good score. Ashwin picking up 6 and Liam Patterson White with 3 wickets.
Notts were then 116 all out with only 2 scores above 20. Virdi bowled superbly with 8 wickets.
Surrey with a lead of 24 was carried to 224-9 by another 50,57, from Smith and 54 from Clark. Notts needed 349.
In true Notts style this season they were bowled out for under 200. Ashwin’s 66 not out was the only resistance. Virdi taking 6 and Notts losing by 167 runs.
Virdi is definitely in contention for the ashes with Leach and Bess. Leach should play if we need one spinner but if we need to whoever is in better form should play.
