New Zealand beat India to reach the world cup final

New Zealand were everyone’s underdog going into this semi. But they proved everybody wrong with an 18 run victory against India. Williamson with 67 and Taylor with 74 carried New Zealand to 239-8. Many thought this was not going to be enough but Brendon McCullum made a very good tweet. He said ”around 250 would never be enough in a bilateral series between these two teams on this surface but in a world cup semi-final….. It may just be!🧐” Brendon made a very good point. Especially with India who rely so highly on Virat and Rohit. New Zealand started brilliantly with the ball. They removed all of India’s top 3 for 1 each. Henry and Boult bowled brilliantly up top with pace and bounce in combination with swing and seam movement. Then Neesham took a spectacular one-handed catch to dismiss Kartik and India were rocked at 24-4. Pant and Pandya rebuilt before they both ran out of patience and hit it down the fielder’s throats. Jadeja joined Dohni and they put on 116 runs to get them back into the game. But when they both fell in the space of 4 balls it was all but over. Martin Guptill and his rocket arm caught out Dohni trying to get back on strike. New Zealand will now either play England or Australia in a very exciting world cup final.

  1. An excellent bowling performance by New Zealand. The early loss of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli was a double blow from which India were unable to recover. I think this match has also shown that Mahendra Singh Dhoni, after an illustrious career, is now a spent force – the number of dot balls he allowed to be bowled at him early in his innings put India massively behind the rate, and an excellent innings from Jadeja apart, they never looked like getting back on terms.
