The one day cup final, and the last of its kind. Next year the ECB is introducing the 100 ball format at the same time as the one day cup. Consequently, the one day cup will be players not picked in the 100. This means it will be a second XI and the worse of the first XI. In addition to this its the last one at lords.
Somerset played 8 and won 5 in the group stages. Hampshire won 7 out of 8 and qualified for a home quarter and semi-final. Somerset, on the other hand, had to play there quarters and semis away. Now because Hampshire have played to at home and Somerset to away I feel Somerset may have a small advantage. This is if Hampshire are now relying on there home ground for wins.
Let’s start with the two teams batting. Hampshire have Alsop, Donald, Vince, Northeast, Markram and Rossouw as there specialist batsmen. Somerset have Banton, Azhar, Trego, Hildreth, Abell and Bartlett. Now on paper Hampshire probably have a more consistent lineup but I feel Somerset ’s is more destructive.
Also for the final Hampshire are without Vince due to England duties and Markram with South Africa.
Now the Allrounders Somerset have Gregory, Van Der Merwe and then Tom Abell bowls a bit and the Overtons can spank it. Now Hampshire without there main all-rounder Dawson (also on England duties) they have no overseas players that I am aware of. So this has to go to Somerset.
Last but not least, the bowlers. Hampshire have Crane, Edwards, Abbott, Berg and fuller. Somerset’s bowling attack is Both the overtons, Van Der Merve, Josh Davey, Lewis Gregory and Abell can bowl some overs. These bowling attacks are very close.
I feel that Somerset will win this Final. Although it will be a close game.
