Somerset started day 4 on 171 for 7 with a lead of 133 and 3 wickets left. A good start needed.
But Somerset made the worst possible start in the second over, after Bartlett was dropped in the first, as Craig Overton the hero of yesterday out. He was caught at second slip for a vitally important 28 runs of 41 balls by Zac Crawley. The bowler Matt Milnes. Not long after Somersets morning went from bad to worse with Josh Davey then being out cheaply for 2 caught behind of Mitchell Claydon. Somerset 181-9 just 144 ahead. On a different and more positive note for Somerset Brooks joined Bartlett and shortly after he reached his fifty. Very mature innings from the 21-year-old. Although Jack Brooks was a number 11 he was playing some very expansive shots and before you knew it they had put on 50 and Somerset had raced along to 231-9 with a lead of 193. Shortly after it ended with Bartlett trapped lbw for 63. Somerset 243 all out. This was a fantastic fight back from being 111-7 which was virtually 73-7 as Kent had a lead of 38. So kent needed 206 to win.
Somerset made the perfect start with Dickson being caught at slip for 0 of Gregory’s bowling. The perfect start continued with Brooks having Renshaw caught at slip for a duck. 5,0 a poor return for Renshaw against his former county. Kent 1-2. After Crawley and Bell Drummond had moved the score along to 36-2 Gregory got two latter. He was out 18 pinned lbw for 18. The same fate accounted for Kuhn but this time to Overton( for the second time in the game.) One more fell before lunch, Crawley he was the one batsman looking competent before he was caught at slip of Gregory. Lunch 45-5 and kent rocked by Gregory, with 3, Overton, with 1 and brooks with 1. Somerset need 5 wickets and kent 161 runs.
After lunch, Somerset made a good start removing Robinson quickly for 2. But Stevens and Blake added staunch resistance. Before the latter fell for 20 caught behind of Overton. 82-7. The last 3 frustrated the home side but in the end, it was a comfortable win for Somerset cleaning up the tail and winning by 74 runs. Gregory the stand out with a 5 wicket haul. A great start for Somerset.
